Cavalleria Rusticana tells the tale of Turiddu, who is still in love with his former sweetheart Lola. When Lola's husband Alfio hears?of the affair he challenges Turridu to?a duel, resulting in a tragic death. This is Mascagni's best-known work and includes the stirring chorus 'Regina coeli' and the beautiful Intermezzo, with it's iconic string melody.
