This recording is one of the best jazz recordings of all time and also some of Miles's best trumpet work. He exhibits great tone, range, technique and improvisation. Miles is so intense on this whole recording, nailing passage after passage. As Miles mentioned in his book, they completely tore the roof off of the place. A great supporting group as well, George Coleman on tenor saxophone, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums. The interplay between Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and the uncanny Tony Williams is just breath-taking and hints very clearly at the new directions in which they and Miles would take the small jazz ensemble for the next several years.
