From many aspects the 1980 's was a time for experiment, with the explosion of new sounds and wild colorful fashion trends embodied by pop icons such as Cyndi Lauper. During the 80 's came the advent of music television which enabled the greater exposure of artists and changed the landscape of the music industry forever. This is a part of my career that holds fond memories having hosted the original Australian version of MTV. There was much musical experimentation during 80 's particularly with the incorporation of cutting-edge technology such as synthesizers and drum machines which lead to the flood of New Wave and Synthpop groups such as a flock of seagulls. The 80 's probably more so than any decade saw it's fair share of one hit wonders with the likes of Adam & the Ants and Nena with her '99 Luftballons'. The 80 's also saw the influx of boy bands with New Kids On The Block showing they had "The Right Stuff". John Farnham's "You're The Voice" and Men At Work's "Down Under" were smash hits during the 80 's and have continued to be recognized as unofficial Australian anthems.
