Bad Bascomb mines the recordings of the one-time big band saxophonist best known for his stint in the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra, who also played with Count Basie. Bascomb blew big and hard with authority and assertiveness. He had a good tone and an expressive approach that served him well in beautiful ballad interpretation. This CD contains all the recordings he did for the United label in 1952. The 8-piece band was his working band in Detroit where he was in the midst of what turned out to be a 7-year stint. A young Duke Jordan is the featured pianist. Influenced by Coleman Hawkins, Bascomb does "Body and Soul" (entitled "Soul and Body") and there's jumping jive in "Pink Cadillac". 17 tracks, most previously unissued.(Previously deleted:7/1/07.
