Guitarist Peter Leitch is accompanied by the accomplished tenor saxophonist and flutist Jed Levy, pianist George Cables, and two of the most in-demand rhythm players on the New York scene, bassist Dwayne Burno and drummer Steve Johns. On Leitch's 8th CD for Reservoir, he has tailored a program of nine selections to display the soloing talents of his guests, and his own compositional skills on four originals. The group performs straight-ahead be-bop on Charlie Parker's "Segment" and on Albert Aylers' "Ghosts," they bring this classic of free jazz into the realm of calypso. "East of the Sun" is perfect as a guitar solo vehicle for Leitch.
