CD reissue. Poco are a Southern California country rock band originally formed by Richie Furay, Jim Messina and Rusty Young. Formed following the demise of The Buffalo Springfield in 1968, Poco was part of the first wave of the West Coast country rock genre. The title of their first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, is reputedly a reference to the break-up of The Buffalo Springfield. This album was recorded on 9/30/1971 in front of an audience of mostly family, friends, and music company executives from Columbia. The band had just released the studio album From the Inside, which introduced Paul Cotton in place of Jim Messina. Cotton's contributions on electric guitar signify that Poco was headed in a more commercially rock-oriented direction. The set list is made up of material from the new album, with four more from Deliverin', and The Buffalo Springfield's "A Child's Claim to Fame" as part of a medley that also includes "Pickin' Up the Pieces.
