Intentionally (but not publically) planned by the group to be their last work together, Collapse Into Now lyrically hints at R.E.M.’s disbanding, and was popularly considered to be a return to the “classic” R.E.M. sound. Recorded in four different cities: Berlin, New Orleans, Nashville and Portland Oregon, Collapse features guest appearances by Patti Smith and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder. It has now been released on R.E.M.'s new label Concord.
