Rossini is represented in this collection by his two best-loved comic operas. The 1980 Cologne recording of La Cenerentola, conducted by Gabriele Ferro "with a mixture of ease and ebullience", features Enzo Dara "as an amusing Magnifico, the young Francisco Araiza ardent and fresh-voiced as the Prince, and Lucia Valentini Terrani - the leading Cenerentola of her time - giving a reading that is ripe, meaningful and suitably virtuosic in it's lustrous, dark-grained way" (Gramophone).
