On Here is Donato!, acclaimed trombonist and composer Ryan Keberle and his Brazilian quartet Collectiv do Brasil celebrate the enduring music of João Donato, one of the most distinctive and influential voices in Brazilian music. Rather than reimagining or modernizing Donato's compositions, the group inhabits them from within, exploring the effortless blend of sophistication, groove, and melodic clarity that made his music so singular. Featuring pianist and arranger Felipe Silveira, bassist Felipe Brisola, and drummer Paulinho Vicente, Collectiv do Brasil brings together four musicians deeply immersed in the Brazilian musical tradition while drawing on decades of experience in jazz and improvised music. The result is a collection of performances that honors Donato's legacy while revealing the timeless flexibility and emotional depth of his compositions.
