Reissue of his 1959 debut featuring jazz quartet the Red Onions (who frequently played in humorist Jean Shepard's variety nightclub act) backing Silverstein's Beat-esque poetry. The multi-talented writer/cartoonist/singer Shel Silverstein's most durable legacy has been his work as a children's book author, but between 1959 and 1980, he released a variety of albums, dabbling in multiple genres: Jazz, Folk, Country, Rock, and penning several memorable tunes. The poetry, while not a joke, is not overly serious, either, in the spirit of Silverstein's other endeavors.
