To celebrate it's 50th anniversary, Tales of Mystery and Imagination: Edgar Allan Poe, The Alan Parsons Project's debut studio album, is being reissued in a variety of formats, including a deluxe audiophile 3LP book pack pressed on 180gm heavyweight black vinyl. Originally released in June 1976, the album's lyrical and musical themes retell horror stories and poetry by Edgar Allan Poe, with featured musicians including Arthur Brown of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown on The Tell-Tale Heart," John Miles on "The Cask of Amontillado" and "(The System of) Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether," and Terry Sylvester of The Hollies on "To One in Paradise," alongside the complete lineups of Ambrosia and Pilot and keyboardist Francis Monkman of Curved Air and Sky. The album became a worldwide hit, selling nearly one million copies and achieving platinum status in several territories, including Germany and Canada. The Alan Parsons Project, formed by engineer/producer Alan Parsons and songwriter, musician, and manager Eric Woolfson, released 10 concept albums between 1976 and 1987 focused on science fiction, supernatural, literary, and sociological themes, selling more than 55 million albums worldwide. Limited to 1,976 copies, this 3LP book pack includes an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity, the million-selling and critically acclaimed 1976 debut album, the 1987 remix album, a "Work in Progress" album featuring early rough mixes, demos, and alternative takes, audio mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, and a 12" x 12" deluxe book featuring full lyrics, bonus track commentary, and interviews with Alan Parsons, Sally Woolfson, musicians, and other album contributors."
