1952 was the year Ike defeated Democrat Adlai Stevenson to become president of th USA. The year King George the VI of Britain died and Queen Elizabeth came to the throne. Winston Churchill revealed that the UK had the atom bomb and 'Singing In The rain' was launched onto our cinema screens. It was also a time when popular singers were emerging from being the vocalist with the band to being a star in their own right, which would pave the way for the popular vocalists of the Rock 'N' Roll era. This CD presents a selection of songs by Various Artists which would feed the juke boxes and record players of the nation, plus act one of the smash hit 1952 Broadway cast recording of Rodgers and Hart's 'Pal Joey', with Jane Froman, Dick Beavers, Helen Gallagher, Patricia Northrop, Elaine Stritch.
