"Unexpected Songs" is the debut recording of Norwegian countertenor Daniel Sæther. The works on this release are juxtapositions of old (texts) and new (music). The songs are written by some of the most important Norwegian composers of contemporary music and religious music in the 20th and 21st centuries. The texts are mostly religious; hymns, bible texts and excerpts from the classical mass. The Norwegian counter-tenor, studied at Birminghan Conservatoire and at The Royal Academy in Den Haag. He made his operatic debut with the Norwegian State Opera Company in 2006, followed shortly thereafter by his UK debut with Handel's Messiah. Based in Oslo, he has worked alongside well-known ensembles like Barokkanerne, Oslo Barokk, Pro Musica Antiqua, and more.
