Tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims worked with big names such as Benny Goodman, Stan Kenton and Gerry Mulligan, but this 20 track CD presents some of his finest early work as a leader in his own right. This material was originally spread over several different labels on 78s and LPs, and contains 5 seperate recording dates, all in his beloved quartet format, from the early 1950s, including his on-record debut as a leader made in Sweden in 1950. Some of Sims' most important early work is here such as "East Of The Sun" and "Zoot Swings the Blues," two of the first jazz sides ever cut for release on Long Playing records. Zoot's accompanists include the pianists Dick Hyman, Gerry Wiggins and John Lewis and drummers Art Blakey, Kenny Clarke and Don Lamond.
