Blue Note Kicks Off Re:imagined with Lead Single From Jorja Smith
If you didn't catch the news from Blue Note, they will be releasing a new compilation this September that's a brand new collection of "classic Blue Note tracks", but reworked and newly recorded by UK artists who are up and coming.
The idea is to pair legacy music with new musicians working today.
Contributors will include the following jazz, soul, and R&B performers:
Shabaka Hutchings, Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia, Mr Jukes, Steam Down, Skinny Pelembe, Emma-Jean Thackray, Poppy Ajudha, Jordan Rakei, Fieh, Ishmael Ensemble, Blue Lab Beats, Melt Yourself Down, Yazmin Lacey, Alfa Mist, and Jorja Smith.
Blue Note have released the lead single from the album performed by Jorja Smith, a version of St Germain’s “Rose Rouge”.
The track originally appeared on St Germain’s 2000 Blue Note album Tourist, and was itself based on a sample of Marlena Shaw’s “Woman of the Ghetto” from her 1973 album Cookin’ With Blue Note At Montreux.
Blue Note says:
"Smith’s stunning new version takes its cues from classic soul, jazz and reggae and perfectly captures the enduring Blue Note aesthetic."
Jorja Smith also has a new single out, "Be Honest" you might also want to check out:
