Voodoo is D'Angelo's landmark sophomore album, a genre-defining statement that reshaped neo-soul with it's deep funk grooves, raw intimacy, and organic musicianship. Originally released at the turn of the millennium and reissued on vinyl in December 2012 by Modern Classics Recordings, this 2×LP U.S. pressing restores the album's dense, late-night atmosphere across four sides. Recorded and mixed at Electric Lady Studios and mastered at Sterling Sound, Voodoo is driven by D'Angelo's all-encompassing creative vision-he arranges, produces, and performs much of the instrumentation himself-while collaborators like Questlove, Pino Palladino, and Russell "The Dragon" Elevado help shape it's loose, hypnotic feel. Tracks such as "Playa Playa," "Devil's Pie," and "Chicken Grease" lean heavily into pocket-driven funk, while "Spanish Joint," "The Root," and the iconic "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" balance sensuality, spirituality, and emotional vulnerability. This reissue features expanded original artwork in a gatefold tip-on jacket and new liner notes by Jason King, including interviews with key contributors, making it the first vinyl reissue since the original 2000 release.
