He Strode The Decline Of The Big Bands And The Rise Of The Smaller R&B Unit Like A Behemoth, Scoring Hits With Cootie Williams Orchestra And Then With His Own Band. He Was Able To Compete With The Biggest Stars Of His Genre Like Louis Jordan Etc. Until The Rise Of Rock And Roll And The New Younger Audience Changed The Landscape For Him And All Of His Contemporaries. This Superb CD From Jasmine Includes Many Of His Race/Jukebox And R&B Hits That Have Become Blues Standards And Enjoyed A Popularity Which Still Resonates Today Thirty Years After His Death. Songs Like "Cherry Red Blues", "Somebody's Gotta Go", "Old Maid Boogie" And "Kidney Stew Blues" Are Still Recorded And Performed Today. These Are His Great Seminal Recordings From The Heyday Of Rhythm And Blues Which Still Rock Almost Seventy-Five Years After Their Recording.
