Natchez, Mississippi native Papa George Lightfoot was a Delta blues singer and harmonica player who recorded several sides for various blues labels including Aladdin, Imperial, Savoy and Excello between 1949 and 1956 before disappearing into obscurity. As interest in rural Delta blues grew in the mid 1960's, Lightfoot's name became more well known which led producer Steve LaVere to Natchez in 1969 to ask Lightfoot to record again. The resulting album, "Natchez Trace," brought Lightfoot to the forefront of the blues revival of the late 1960's. Lightfoot's comeback was short lived however - he died in 1971 from respiratory failure at the way too young age of 47. Presented here is the original 1969 album, featuring Papa George Lightfoot (vocals, harmonica); Carson Whitsett (piano); Jerry Puckett (guitar); Ron Johnson (bass) and Tommy Tate (drums). All selections newly re-mastered.
