A positive and uplifting blend of contemporary rock and anthemic ballads using JOHN CAMERON's orchestration and featuring west end A-listers KERRY ELLIS and BEN FORSTER, THE GOLDEN DOOR is an original musical theatre concept created by Writer/Producer BRIAN DEGAS and Composer/Keyboard player Phil Lanzon of URIAH HEEP. Set in 1917 on Ellis Island, neighbor to the Statue of Liberty, and based on true accounts, the story follows both the joy and the sorrow of a group of Immigrants fleeing the horrors of WW1 in Europe. THE GOLDEN DOOR is a 24-hour snapshot of life on the island. The trauma of physical and mental examinations, and the tyranny of the power-wielding captain, Jack Hussey, will decide who will contribute towards building a 'new America' and who will not. This musical theatre concept produces an evocative fusion of romance, heartbreak, comedy, foreign intrigue, revenge, and forgiveness, as Immigrants confront their fears, beliefs, and expectations. In January 2023, Phil contacted producer, Joan Lane. Together, they furthered the project with a very well-received London Showcase performance in October 2024. This concept recording offers listeners a first introduction to the world, characters, and music of the concept. WHERE THE PAST IS NEVER THE PAST AND IS ALWAYS PRESENT.
