One of the finest doo-wop groups to come out of the South Side of Chicago, The Orchids recorded these sides in two separate sessions for Chicago's Parrot label in April and September of 1955. Gilbert Warren was the principal lead and composer; bass Buford Wright wrote and sang lead, and second tenor Robert C. Nesbary also played piano for the group. The two remaining members were Ashley Farr and Hubert White. On "Newly Wed," the vocal group is backed by Red Holloway on tenor sax, probably Norman Simmons at the piano, Lefty Bates on guitar, Quinn Wilson on bass, and Vernel Fournier on drums. On "I Can't Refuse" the band is thought to be bandleader Al Smith's combo featuring Red Holloway on tenor sax, Quinn Wilson on bass, and either Paul Gusman or James Slaughter on drums. Newly re-mastered.
